This unit provides a practical and strategic introduction to AI in the workplace, helping learner build both understanding and confidence in applying AI effectively.

Learners will explore:

What AI is, including its capabilities and limitations
Where AI can add value across business functions
How to identify realistic and practical AI opportunities
The benefits of AI, such as improved productivity and decision-making
The risks of AI, including bias, privacy concerns and over-reliance
The importance of human oversight and ethical use

There is a strong focus on leadership and strategy, enabling learners to:

Set direction for AI adoption aligned to business goals
Develop policies, governance and responsible AI practices
Assess whether AI solutions are viable, affordable and appropriate
Test ideas through pilots before wider implementation
Turn early concepts into practical, evidence-based next steps

Entry Requirements

This unit is designed for individuals in leadership or management roles who are responsible for guiding AI adoption within their organisation.

To enrol, learners must:

Be aged 19 or over
Be in employment
Have employer support for the programme
Successfully complete a pre-assessment skills test

Delivery

The unit is delivered over five structured weeks, each focusing on a key area of AI strategy and application. Learners will explore AI fundamentals, responsible adoption, strategic planning and practical implementation through real-world examples and guided activities.

The final week brings learning together through assessment and the development of an AI pilot scheme concept, enabling learners to apply their knowledge directly to their organisation.

Progression

On completion, learners will have the confidence and capability to lead AI initiatives within their organisation and contribute to business growth through effective AI adoption.

This unit also forms one part of a three-unit apprenticeship pathway, allowing learners to continue their development beyond AU0009. After completing this unit, individuals can progress to AU0010: AI Adoption, Procurement & Governance and AU0011: AI Delivery & Organisational Transformation.
