About the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM)
Number of employees: 530+
Number of students: 900 from 60+ countries
Founded in 1973 through the merger of the Royal Manchester College of Music and Northern School of Music, the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) is continually recognised as one of the world’s most forward-thinking conservatoires.
The RNCM is a multi-award winning, Manchester-based organisation, with a global reach. They offer a broad spectrum of courses, from Undergraduate degrees, to Master’s degrees, which are designed to give professional musicians opportunities to develop their skills further.
The College also has Junior RNCM, a lively group of talented young musicians aged eight to 18. Every Saturday during term time, they learn from amazing tutors, perform with friends, pick up useful life skills, and build a solid base for future studies at a conservatoire or university.
Upskilling staff with the Level 3 AAT Assistant Accountant apprenticeship
As a leading higher education and performance venue, the RNCM are proud to support their employees with continued professional development to ensure they are able to achieve their full potential.
Having had a positive experience with their previous apprenticeships, the RNCM approached the Growth Company as they were looking to achieve professional accreditation of staff in their finance team.
The RNCM opted for the Level 3 Assistant Accountant apprenticeship, which is accredited by the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT). The apprenticeship supports their employees learn essential skills in areas like financial accounting, management accounting and ethical standards.
Our programme boasts an incredible 75% achievement rate, which is above the national average (*58%). We can attribute this high performance to our quality of education provision, expert tutors with industry experience and smaller class sizes.
Paul Bevan, Deputy Director of Finance at RNCM, said:
“It has been a pleasure working with the Growth Company, the contact I have had with the account manager during the apprentice review sessions has been good and useful to see how the apprentices had been progressing with their studies and non-work-related areas.
“The Growth Company’s support to find the right candidate for the finance apprentice role has helped enormously during a critical period in the finance team’s responsibilities. The role helped provide backfill across all areas of the finance function, which allowed the finance team a little more time to work on the implementation of a new finance system.”
Apprenticeships are the key to unlocking potential in your team
In a busy finance department, there's an immense amount of pressure to meet deadlines, handle complex data, and make sure everything's accurate. That's where an apprentice can really help.
By taking on routine tasks like data entry, research and other support tasks, they create more time for the wider team to focus on more complex projects, making the management of tasks much more streamlined.
