The Level 3 Lead Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship helps apprentices develop the knowledge, skills, and behaviours needed for a leadership role in adult care. This role involves supporting adults with care and support needs to achieve their personal goals, live safely and independently, and maintain choice and control in their lives.

The programme focuses on frontline leadership, providing guidance and direction to others, and exercising professional judgement and accountability. Apprentices will also enhance their communication, decision-making, and supervisory skills while ensuring high-quality care and support in real-world care settings.

On successful completion, apprentices will achieve the Level 3 Lead Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship Standard, including the Care Certificate and the Level 3 Diploma in Care. Functional Skills in maths and English will also be completed if required.

Apprenticeship details

Throughout the apprenticeship, apprentices will develop the knowledge, skills, and behaviours needed to excel as Lead Adult Care Workers, providing frontline care and leadership to support vulnerable adults.

What it covers:

  • Core Knowledge: Understanding the responsibilities of their role, statutory standards, duty of care, and how to create and review care plans tailored to individual needs. Apprentices will learn to lead others in delivering person-centred care while upholding dignity, equality, and diversity.

  • Skills Development: Practical training includes supporting individuals with personal care, social activities, health monitoring, and safeguarding. Apprentices will also develop communication, mentoring, and problem-solving skills to lead and support their teams effectively.

  • Professional Behaviours: Emphasis on empathy, respect, and professionalism while maintaining high standards of care. Apprentices will learn to mentor colleagues, ensure compliance with safety protocols, and address workplace challenges confidently.

Delivery

A Skills Development Tutor will be allocated and will deliver learning and assessment sessions with on a regular basis, liaising with a work-based mentor to monitor progress.

Entry requirements

Applicants must have minimum GCSE grades A*-C/4-9 in English and maths and an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Progression

If apprentices complete the apprenticeship standard with a pass or a distinction, employers can support their apprentices in progressing to higher levels of study. For guidance on next steps, please consult with the Skills Development Coach.
