Insurance is a dynamic and essential industry, providing protection against a wide range of risks - from high-performance vehicles to natural disasters, as well as future societal needs. With over a million people employed in the UK alone, it’s an industry that plays a crucial role in safeguarding businesses and individuals.

This apprenticeship standard covers a variety of roles, including both internal-facing operational management and external client management. All roles require strong technical expertise and the ability to apply knowledge across different scenarios, depending on the company's size, specialism, and business model.

Apprenticeship details

The Senior Insurance Professional Level 6 Apprenticeship equips apprentices with the advanced skills, knowledge, and behaviours needed to excel in senior roles within the insurance industry.

What it covers:

The Senior Insurance Professional Level 6 Apprenticeship covers a wide range of topics, including:

  • Insurance Principles and Practice: In-depth understanding of core principles, policies, and practices in the insurance sector.
  • Risk Management: Assessing, managing, and mitigating risks in various insurance contexts.
  • Regulatory and Compliance Frameworks: Knowledge of legal, regulatory, and ethical standards within the industry.
  • Strategic Leadership: Developing skills to manage teams, make strategic decisions, and lead change within an insurance organization.
  • Client Management: Building and maintaining strong client relationships, understanding their needs, and delivering tailored solutions.
  • Technical Insurance Expertise: Advanced knowledge of specific insurance products and services, from underwriting to claims management.

Delivery

This is a work-based apprenticeship, apprentices will receive regular 1-to-1 support to help them achieve competence in line with the knowledge, skills, and behaviours outlined in the apprenticeship standard.

Entry requirements

Ideally, applicants will have a relevant Level 3 qualification and a minimum of five GCSE's grade 4/C or above including maths and English.

Progression

On successful completion, apprentices will achieve the Senior Insurance Professional standard, demonstrating their ability to apply the knowledge gained from professional qualifications to day-to-day operations, while proving competency in their specialist area.

The professional qualification awarded will be either the Advanced Diploma in Insurance from the Chartered Insurance Institute or the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters.

After completing the apprenticeship, apprentices can apply for professional registration with the relevant Professional Body and gain the recognised designation of 'ACII' (Chartered Insurance Institute) or 'Advanced Dip CILA' (Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters).
