The Improvement Practitioner Level 4 Apprenticeship provides apprentices with the knowledge, skills, and behaviours necessary to lead and implement change across various organisational functions and processes. By blending Lean and Six Sigma methodologies with project and change management principles, apprentices will learn to drive improvements, solve complex problems, and enhance business performance.

Improvement Practitioners are essential in sectors such as automotive, banking, engineering, healthcare, food production, IT, retail, and more. They typically lead smaller projects or play a key role in larger programmes, addressing recurring challenges and identifying opportunities for improvement. Apprentices will develop expertise in diagnosing issues, proposing solutions, implementing changes, and coaching teams to share best practices.

As part of the apprenticeship, learners will gain hands-on experience in managing projects, motivating teams, and ensuring successful outcomes. Apprentices will work with stakeholders across functions, continuously improving processes while focusing on communication, sustainability, and long-term impact. This apprenticeship prepares apprentices for roles such as Business Improvement Practitioner, Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, Process Excellence Manager, and many other positions across diverse industries.

Delivery

Our Skills Development Tutors will visit apprentices on-site, working with them to meet employer’s specific needs and expectations.

Entry requirements

Applicants must have minimum GCSE grades A*-C/4-9 in English and maths.

Progression

Apprentices can progress into roles such as Continuous Improvement Manager, Process Excellence Manager, Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt, or Project Manager. They may also move into senior roles, such as Business Improvement Specialist or Operational Excellence Leader.

For those looking to deepen their expertise, the Level 5 Improvement Specialist Apprenticeship offers further development, preparing them for more strategic leadership roles, such as leading large-scale change initiatives or becoming experts in process optimisation and continuous improvement across various sectors.
