An Early Years Practitioner can work in range of private and public settings including; full day care, children’s centres, pre-schools, reception classes, playgroups, nursery schools, home-based provision, hospitals, social care settings, out of school environments and local authority provision to deliver the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) requirements set by the government for the learning, development and care of children from birth to 5 in both indoor and outdoor environments.
An apprentice will work and interact directly with children, supporting the planning of and delivery of activities, purposeful play opportunities and educational programmes within the ethos of the setting.
They'll work as part of a professional team ensuring the welfare and care for children under the guidance and supervision of an Early Years Educator, teacher or other suitably qualified professional the Early Years Workforce.

The Early Years Practitioner Level 2 Apprenticeship. equips apprentices with the core skills, knowledge, and behaviours required for a successful career in childcare.
What it covers:
- Skills: Support children's development through effective communication, safe practices, and engaging activities.
- Knowledge: Understand child development stages, safeguarding rules, and early education requirements.
- Behaviours: Work collaboratively with colleagues and parents, maintain professionalism, and prioritise children's well-being.
Delivery
A Skills Development Tutor will be allocated to the apprentice and will deliver learning and assessment sessions with them on a regular basis, liaising with their work-based mentor to monitor progress.
Entry requirements
Ideally, applicants should hold a minimum of Level 1 in maths and English or equivalent.
Apprentices without Level 1 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to completion of their apprenticeship. Applicants who already hold Level 1 prior to enrolment, will be expected to attempt Level 2 in both maths and English prior to completion of their apprenticeship.
To work in this industry apprentices will need an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
Progression
On successful completion, apprentices can progress onto higher-level apprenticeships, or supervisory roles within childcare.
