The Professional Accounting or Tax Technician Level 4 Apprenticeship is designed to help employers upskill their teams by developing advanced accounting and tax expertise. Apprentices will learn to create, verify, and review accurate financial information, ensuring compliance with legal, professional, and ethical standards. This apprenticeship equips employees with the practical skills and knowledge needed to support your business’s accounting or tax functions, whether within an accounting practice, professional services firm, HMRC, or your organisation’s finance department.

Apprenticeship details

The Professional Accounting or Tax Technician Level 4 Apprenticeship equips apprentices with the advanced skills, knowledge, and behaviours necessary to succeed in accounting or tax roles.

What it covers:

The apprenticeship covers a range of knowledge, skills, and behaviours that can be applied in the workplace, supported by elements of an AAT qualification, including:

  • Drafting and Interpreting Financial Statements
  • Applied Management Accounting
  • Internal Accounting Systems and Controls

Delivery

This is a work-based apprenticeship, apprentices will receive regular 1-to-1 support to help them achieve competence in line with the knowledge, skills, and behaviours outlined in the apprenticeship standard.

Entry requirements

  • Applicants must hold a Level 3 qualification in Accounting
  • Ideally, applicants should have a GCSE grade 4 or above in maths and English (or equivalent)
  • Applicants must be employed in a finance or accountancy role

Progression

The Professional Accounting or Tax Technician standard allows students to register with several UK professional bodies in this sector. If a candidate wishes to become a member of a professional body, there may be additional requirements specific to that body, which can be completed as part of or alongside the Apprenticeship, at the discretion of the employer and candidate.

Completing the Professional Accounting or Tax Technician Apprenticeship may also grant credits towards the Professional Accountant or Tax Apprenticeship, or Chartered Accountancy or Taxation qualifications offered by the relevant professional bodies. Additionally, this apprenticeship may result in credits being awarded towards relevant undergraduate degree programmes.
