The Light Vehicle Service & Maintenance Technician apprenticeship is tailored for individuals aiming to start or advance their careers in light vehicle maintenance and repair. 

Learners will work on light vehicles such as cars and vans, in either dealerships that focus on a particular manufacturer, or for an independent garage that deals with many different makes of vehicles.

The nature of the work ranges from replacing simple parts to solving complex faults with the use of diagnostic methods and equipment.

Apprenticeship details

The Light Vehicle Service & Maintenance Technician apprenticeship equips learners with the core skills, knowledge, and behaviours required for a successful career.

What it covers:

This apprenticeship is suitable for a wide range of individuals, including school leavers, career changers, and those already working in the automotive sector who wish to formalise their skills and advance their careers.

On this apprenticeship programme you will develop the knowledge, skills, and behaviours expected from a competent Light Vehicle Service & Maintenance Technician, these include:

  • Induction and Foundation Skills
  • Routine Services and Inspections
  • Simple diagnosis and repair
  • Intermediate diagnosis and repair
  • Customer experience and communication
  • Learning to learn and striving for excellence
  • Making it happen and commercial awareness

Delivery 

Our Skills Development Tutors will visit apprentices on-site or remotely, working with them to meet employer’s specific needs and expectations. 

Attendance is required 1 day per week at the Greater Manchester SkillCentre in Trafford Park.

Entry requirements 

There are no formal entry requirements however, apprentices will need to attend an informal interview. If apprentices do not hold the relevant English and maths qualifications, they will work towards them as part of this programme.

Progression

On completion, learners have the opportunity to move into more specialised positions, or choose to pursue higher-level qualifications.
