Apprentices will be able to confidently understand and use infrastructure management tools to automate the provision, test, deploy and monitor infrastructure components.

There are 3 specialist pathways to follow, these are:

  • Support Technician apprentice - Helpdesk
  • Network Technician apprentice – Networking
  • Digital Communications Technician apprentice – Telecoms

On successful completion of the programme, apprentices will achieve the Level 3 Information Communications Technician apprenticeship standard.

Apprentices can also achieve a CompTIA A+ certificate. CompTIA A+ is an early-career data certification for professionals tasked with developing and promoting IT decision-making.

Apprenticeship details

Apprentices will be introduced to structured solutions techniques. In addition to studying IT support software, apprentices will also cover:
  • Networking
  • Servers
  • IT Essentials
  • Secure Communications
  • Programming
  • Databases
  • Data-driven decision-making
  • Compliance with data security standards and legislation
  • Enhancing data skills
  • Preparation for EPA

Delivery

The delivery of this apprenticeship is based on a blended model of fortnightly group training sessions, one-to-one sessions every 4 weeks, webinars, online courses, video, and additional support as required. 

Entry requirements

GCSE grade A*-C/9-4 in maths and English or equivalent is desirable.

Functional Skills is no longer a mandated requirement for apprentices aged 19 or above. However, some programmes may have minimum entry level requirements for English and maths due to the nature of the programme.

Progression

On successful completion of the Level 3 Information Communication Technician Apprenticeship, the learner could potentially move to a level 4 Networking apprenticeship, or into a new role in IT Support or other specialisms within ICT. 

If the apprentice is not currently employed in this role then the roles they might expect to be applying for are: Help Desk Support, IT Field Technician or Network Support.
