Leading green continuous improvement projects and being responsible for their success, while coaching teams and sharing best practices, apprentices will tackle issues that require in-depth analysis and the implementation of a range of effective and sustainable countermeasures.

As part of the Green Improvement Practitioner apprenticeship, the apprentice and their employer will agree on a project focused on reducing process waste, transport costs, energy use, etc., contributing to their overall carbon footprint reduction. The project will involve utilising 
the skills, knowledge, and behaviours learned throughout the apprenticeship, employing the DMAIC methodology.

On successful completion, apprentices will achieve a Green Improvement Practitioner Level 4 Apprenticeship.

Apprenticeship details

The Green Improvement Practitioner Level 4 Apprenticeship equips apprentices with the advanced skills, knowledge, and behaviours needed to drive sustainable process improvements within their organisation.

What it covers:

This apprenticeship covers a broad range of modules, including:

  1. Lean and Six Sigma Principles:

    • Lean: Focus on eliminating waste and improving process efficiency.
    • Six Sigma: Emphasis on reducing variation and improving quality.
  2. Project and Change Management:

    • Project Management: Planning, executing, and closing projects effectively.
    • Change Management: Managing the human side of change to ensure successful implementation.
  3. Tools and Techniques:

    • Data Analysis: Using statistical tools to analyse data and make informed decisions.
    • Problem-Solving: Techniques like root cause analysis to identify and solve issues.

Delivery

This is a work-based apprenticeship, apprentices will receive regular 1-to-1 support to help them achieve competence in line with the knowledge, skills, and behaviours outlined in the apprenticeship standard.

Entry requirements

Ideally, applicants will hold a relevant Level 3 qualification and have a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade 4/C or above, including maths and English.

Progression

On completion, apprentices can progress onto a higher level apprenticeship, or unlock new career opportunities. Professions may include; Environmental Improvement Compliance Manager, Environmental Improvement Engineer, Environmental Improvement Construction 
Manager, Environmental Improvement Data Analyst, and Environmental Improvement Health and Safety Officer.
