Qualification

On successful completion, apprentices will achieve a Engineering Maintenance Technician (Dual Discipline) Level 3 Apprenticeship.

Apprenticeship details

Apprentices will develop the skills to:

  • Carry out planned and preventative maintenance to reduce downtime

  • Respond effectively to breakdowns and faults

  • Diagnose issues and carry out repairs safely and efficiently

  • Record maintenance activities and complete jobs to industry standards

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within your business

  • Work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team

Apprentices are trained to meet health, safety, environmental, and sustainability standards, helping your business remain compliant and efficient.

Specialisms

This apprenticeship is a core and options programme, allowing apprentices to specialise according to your business needs:

Electrical & Control and Instrumentation Technician
Focus on electrical and control systems, including motors, power distribution (low and high voltage), PLCs, flow meters, heat exchangers, and safety controls.

Electrical & Mechanical Maintenance Technician
Focus on combined electrical and mechanical systems, including motors, actuators, pumps, fans, valves, gearboxes, and pipework.

This flexibility allows you to align the apprenticeship with the specific technical requirements of your operation.

  

Delivery

Apprentices must attend the Greater Manchester SkillCentre 1 day per week and a Skills Development Tutors will visit apprentices in the workplace, working with them to meet employer’s specific needs and expectations.

Entry requirements

Applicants must have a GCSE grade A*-C or 4-9 in GCSE maths and English.

Functional Skills is no longer a mandated requirement for apprentices aged 19 or above. However, some programmes may have minimum entry level requirements for English and maths due to the nature of the programme.

Apprentices completing this programme are prepared for roles such as:
